About this Talk

Description

DBpedia is a crowd-sourced community effort to extract structured content from the information created in various Wikimedia projects. This structured information resembles an open knowledge graph, the DBpedia Knowledge Graph, which is publicly available for everyone on the Web. The DBpedia Knowledge Graph has been under development for many years and is being improved to this day.

Working and consuming such a large scale dataset has often proven to be a messy and difficult process.

In this masterclass, participants will learn how to consume the DBpedia knowledge graph with the least amount of effort. The masterclass will introduce the DBpedia Knowledge Graph and explain its dataset partitions.

Particular focus will be put on “usability”, i.e. how to consume the DBpedia KG and how to deploy DBpedia on your local infrastructure. On a selected use case, we will explain the process of working with DBpedia KG and DBpedia technology stack (DBpedia Databus,DBpedia Spotlight, DBpedia Docker) and illustrate the potential and the benefits of using DBpedia.

Key Topics

  • DBpedia KG in the Nutshell
  • Querying and consuming the DBpedia KG
  • DBpedia on your local infrastructure
  • Use Case: Semantic Indexing and Search using the DBpedia technology stack

Target Audience

  • DBpedia newbies and beginners that wish to learn about the DBpedia Knowledge Graph
  • Developers that wish to learn how to replicate and deploy DBpedia on a local infrastructure
  • Linked Data and Knowledge Graph adopters
  • Active stakeholders of DBpedia
  • Tech-savvy developers and users of DBpedia

Goals

Get hands-on experience using the DBpedia Knowledge Graph.

Session outline:

  • (25 mins) DBpedia KG in the Nutshell
  • (15 mins) Querying the DBpedia KG
  • (20 mins) DBpedia on your local infrastructure
  • (5-10 mins) Q&A/break
  • (50 mins) Use Case: Semantic Indexing and Search using the DBpedia technology stack
  • (10 mins) Wrap-up and Q&A

Format

  • The masterclass will consist of slide presentations for the general overview, which will be accompanied throughout simple use-cases to showcase the technology.
  • In a hands-on session, participants will try out and get familiar with the particular DBpedia technologies and understand the benefits of it.
  • All the examples at the hands-on session will be developed in a way so that every participant can try and perform the task with a minimal amount of effort.
  • The class will be highly collaborative and interactive.
